FAQ
How much loose leaf to use?
The general rule is 1 tsp of loose leaf tea per cup (250ml) of water.
Start with this as a guideline and adjust to your taste as some people like it stronger or weaker.
Tip: keep in mind that some tea is more dense and some tea is less dense. For a dense tea (for example a black breakfast tea) use less, for a looser tea (for example a white tea with big leaves) use more to get the same flavour. See guide below.
How should I store my loose leaf tea to keep it fresh?
To keep your tea as fresh as possible, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Avoid exposure to light, heat, and moisture. We recommend using the tea within 18 months of opening. Tea is like a spice, it does not necessarily go bad, it will start to loose its flavour with more air exposure. If stored properly your tea should retain flavour for at least 18 months.
Is it available in tea bags?
Currently we prefer loose leaf, & only stock tea in this format... for now at least.
For ease of preparation we do sell plastic free, compostable, fillable tea bags. We also have great no-waste option such as mesh tea accessories.
Our Recommendation: we use french presses in our shops, so we highly recommend using one of those... they clean easily, you can see the infusion colour, and you can control the steeping & easily re-steep our full leaf teas.
See our accessories section if you want to try out one of these options.
How important is water temperature?
It is quite important for Green & White teas, The rest of teas are fine with full boiling water.
Steep green tea at 160–180°F (70–80°C) for 2–3 minutes. White tea prefers cooler water at 140–160°F (60–70°C) and a slightly longer steep of 3–5 minutes. Using water that's too hot can make green and white teas taste bitter. If you don't have a thermometer, let freshly boiled water cool for about 3–5 minutes before pouring or add about 10% cold water to the mug or teapot before adding the boiling water.
Always use filtered water for the best flavour.
